American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi just tied the knot on Sunday.  She married handsome contractor Mike McCuddy, in a beautiful seaside wedding in Prospect Harbor, Maine.

Kara says it was love at first fight for her and Mike—she met him when he began building a new house next to her cozy, two-story summer place overlooking Prospect Harbor in Maine and she went over to complain it was too close to hers! What a great story!!!

McCuddy, 34, popped the question to 38-year-old songwriter on her birthday in early December. Mike has also gotten a big thumbs up from Kara’s dad, former New York state Republican Rep. Joseph J. DioGuardi.

In an interview after the wedding, Pastor Scott Nurse said, “They are absolutely in love with each other.  When I told him he could kiss the bride, everybody cheered. It was a very close, small family-type service.”

The intimate ceremony included 30 of the couple’s closest family and friends, Kara’s “American Idol” colleagues were not in attendance.  She explained, “I don’t think they’d appreciate an invitation to Prospect Harbor, Maine.  I can’t really see Simon Cowell landing in Prospect Harbor. I don’t think that would happen.”

Kara’s dad, Joseph told press, “It was a beautiful wedding but a very small event, with only family and a few close friends. I was proud to give away the bride.”

McCuddy, an ex-school teacher, was a single dad with a young daughter. Kara is very excited about taking her roll as a step-mom. The happy couple has already taken off to their honeymoon!
